is a pharmacist by training and obtained her diploma in 2001 from the University of Bonn.
She began her professional career at the Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte (BfArM) in Germany, where she worked in the field of homoeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products from 2002 to 2005.
Since 2005, she has been with the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) in Strasbourg. Currently she is responsible for Expert Group 13A dealing with Herbal Drugs and Herbal Drug Preparations, as well as Essential Oils. Previously she was in charge of Expert Group 13B and the working parties on Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) and Extracts.
Melanie Bald also contributes to regulatory and scientific discussions as an observer to the EMA Herbal Medicinal Products Committee (HMPC).
