can look back on more than 25 years in various international management positions in pharmaceutical research and development. After completing his PhD in Organic Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University, he started his career at Grünenthal GmbH, Aachen, as Head of Chemical Research. After 10 successful years, he moved to Laboratorios Dr. Esteve in Barcelona as "Research Director", from where he returned to Germany after several more successful years. Since then, Dr. Buschmann has been working as an independent consultant in the field of pharmaceutical R&D, regulatory and CMC. In 2014, he was awarded the IUPAC Richter Prize for the discovery of tapentadol, a new analgesic marketed worldwide as Nucynta/Palexia. From 2010 to 2015, he was engaged as CSO at Savira pharmaceuticals in Vienna, and from 2015 he was "Head of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Development and Patent Affairs" at AiCuris GmbH in Wuppertal. In 2014, together with Dr. Norbert Handler, he founded the consulting company RD&C Research, Development & Consulting GmbH in Vienna, where he manages several projects. He is lead and co-author of more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals, inventor in more than 250 patent families, has been invited to speak at more than 80 international congresses and is author and editor of 5 scientific books. He is also series editor of the successful Methods and Principles in Medicinal Chemistry book series with over 80 volumes published.
